Brij Kesari’s location is also a plus for anyone eager to explore. Its charm, comfort, and quality make it a great base for travellers, whether they’re here for a night or a week.
Morning Exploration: Bikaner’s Top Attractions
My early morning in Bikaner was spent exploring some of the city’s most iconic attractions. With limited time, I focused on a few must-see places that offer a taste of Bikaner’s royal legacy and architectural wonders.
First stop: Junagarh Fort—an architectural marvel that’s not your typical “perched-on-a-hill” Rajasthan fort. No, Junagarh is right there at ground level, standing tall and proud in the heart of Bikaner. The place is like a giant history book, with rooms full of royal artefacts, vibrant courtyards, and those intricate carved balconies you just can’t stop admiring. You can almost feel the stories of Rajasthan’s golden age echoing off the walls!
And talk about timing—it was August 15th, India’s Independence Day! The fort was buzzing with patriotic energy, and flags were 
waving everywhere. People were celebrating, kids were running around with tricolours in hand, and the vibe was infectious. I couldn’t resist the urge to jump in; I borrowed a flag from a grinning kid and snapped a photo, feeling the pride and joy of the day. It was a perfect, unexpected moment that made the visit even more memorable!
Next, I visited Lalgarh Palace, a beautiful red sandstone palace that showcases an impressive blend of Indian and European architectural styles. The Indo-Saracenic style, characterized by its elegant arched windows and intricate latticework, exudes both grandeur and warmth. Lalgarh Palace also houses a museum filled with royal memorabilia, making it a fascinating spot for anyone curious about Bikaner’s royal past. The palace grounds are as beautiful as the palace itself, perfect for a quiet stroll or a photo session.
Finally, I explored the stunning Rampuria Haveli, one of Bikaner’s most exquisite architectural landmarks. Referred to as the ‘Pride of Bikaner’, Rampuria Haveli is a group of majestic havelis constructed by the affluent Rampuria family during the 15th century. These havelis showcase intricate red sandstone carvings, Jharokhas (traditional Rajasthani balconies), and beautiful frescoes that add to the timeless elegance of the property. Walking through the narrow lanes lined with these historic mansions offers a truly immersive experience of Rajasthan’s cultural and architectural heritage.
A Royal Culinary Journey at Narendra Bhawan
One of the highlights of my Bikaner experience was dinner at Narendra Bhawan. This heritage property, once the residence of Bikaner’s last Maharaja, has been transformed into a hotel that blends royal charm with contemporary luxury. Narendra Bhawan’s stunning decor showcases Bikaner’s royal history through lavish interiors, vintage furnishings, and vibrant art that captures both traditional and modern elements.
The meal itself was an adventure in Rajasthani flavours, bringing together spices and ingredients rooted in the state’s culinary heritage. Each dish was crafted with authenticity and precision, offering a rich, delicious taste of Rajasthan. The hospitality at Narendra Bhawan was impeccable, with staff sharing insights into each dish’s origins and flavours, making the experience truly special. Narendra Bhawan is a must-visit for anyone wanting to dine in regal style—it’s more than just a meal; it’s an ode to Bikaner’s royal heritage.

One thing that truly sets Bikaner apart is its distinctive, slow-paced vibe. Unlike other big cities in Rajasthan, Bikaner exudes a 
sense of calm and tradition that makes you want to slow down and take in every detail. From the lively markets to the warm hospitality of its people, Bikaner is a place where tradition meets relaxation. This unique rhythm creates a memorable atmosphere, inviting travellers to truly savour every moment.
Final Thoughts
Though I only had a night in Bikaner, the city left a lasting impression on me. Its unique blend of history, architecture, and culture offers an experience that goes beyond sightseeing. Bikaner may not be as famous as Jaipur or Udaipur, but it’s a hidden gem worth discovering. From the peaceful stay at Brij Kesari to the royal dining at Narendra Bhawan, Bikaner’s charm and warmth made my stopover one of the highlights of my journey to Jaisalmer. For anyone looking to experience Rajasthan’s lesser-known treasures, Bikaner is a city that should not be missed.
